Late at night, on her way home from a costume party, Shula drives along a deserted road and discovers her uncle lying dead on the ground. As preparations for the funeral ceremony begin, she and her cousins gradually bring the family’s hidden secrets to light – truths that their aunts would have preferred to bury with Uncle Fred.

With her second feature film, Zambian-British filmmaker Rungano Nyoni crafts a powerful feminist drama that confronts sexual abuse and denounces the silence and denial that persist in society. For her fresh storytelling, she was awarded the Prize for Best Director in the «Un Certain Regard» section at Cannes and the Golden Eye for Best Feature Film at the Zurich Film Festival.
