Jean, in his mid-fifties, has reached the lowest point of his life. In his despair, he makes a decision: a one-way journey to a war-torn European country, where no one knows him – and no one can stop him from ending his life. He checks into a run-down hotel and, out of old habit, begins making small repairs. The young hotel owner notices his craftsmanship and hires him to help with the rebuilding. Witnessing the resilience and hope of the war-scarred people, Jean slowly finds new courage for himself.

«Hôtel Silence» is an ode to life. The film mirrors the scars of one man in those of a nation marked by war – focusing not on destruction, but on healing, solidarity, and humanity. It is based on the Icelandic novel of the same name by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir and was nominated for the Prix de Soleure.
