Philippa doesn't have it easy: she is constantly overlooked in her job, suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome and is in the middle of a divorce. After a visit to the theatre, she develops a fascination for King Richard III and refuses to accept that the controversial monarch was really as despicable a monster as Shakespeare made him out to be. With the reluctant support of her ex-husband, Philippa embarks on a search for his missing remains – and as an amateur historian comes up against all kinds of doubts and sexism in the male-dominated academic world.

After «The Queen», acclaimed British director Stephen Frears once again turns his attention to an event in recent British history. With a large dash of British humour, he tells the incredible story of an inconspicuous woman who follows her intuition despite great resistance. The leading role is played by the Oscar-nominated actress Sally Hawkins.
