The spirited Rose Gooding has little in common with the devout Edith Swan – except that in the 1920s, they are neighbors in the English seaside town of Littlehampton. One day, Edith and other townspeople begin receiving obscene letters, and suspicion immediately falls on Rose. Scotland Yard is called in, and Rose even faces the possibility of losing custody of her daughter. As the scandalous letters continue to unsettle the town, only policewoman Gladys Moss suspects that something is amiss and that Rose might, in fact, be innocent.

Director Thea Sharrock delivers a hilariously sharp British comedy based on true events, exploring the art of insult. With Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley in the lead roles, the film captivates not only with its witty dialogue but also with outstanding performances.
