The sixth-grade students of Jose Urbina Lopez Elementary School are among the lowest-performing pupils in Mexico. In their classroom, discipline reigns instead of inspiration. But their new teacher, Sergio Juarez, chooses a different path. With empathy and unconventional methods, he seeks to awaken curiosity, potential, and a love of learning in his students. His approach challenges the existing system – and not everyone approves.

This moving social drama is based on a true story that encourages us to rethink education. In the lead role of the unorthodox teacher shines Mexican actor and comedian Eugenio Derbez. The feel-good movie won the Audience Award at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.

At early age children begin to work in the Mexican countryside. The Inheritors is a portrait of theirs lives and their daily struggle for survival. These children work farming, sculpting and painting alebrijes, shepherding, making bricks, weaving cloth, looking after their little siblings, collecting water, harvesting tomato, chili, maize, and laboring in a myriad of other activities. They have inherited tools and techniques from their ancestors, but they have also inherited their day-by-day hardship. Generations pass and child workers remain captive in a cycle of inherited poverty.
