Albert Serra’s portrait of star matador Andrés Roca Rey captures the ancient yet controversial tradition of bullfighting in intoxicating images, discovering beauty in brutality – and brutality in beauty. Serra’s camera follows Rey, a youthful matador with an angelic face, during his ritual dressing, on car rides before and after his performances, and in the moment of confrontation with the bull, where dance and archaism merge. The result is a series of images that neither glorify nor condemn, but simply observe rather than judge.

The prestigious French film magazine «Cahiers du cinéma» has named «Tardes de soledad» the best film of 2025.
