A secluded farmstead in the Altmark region. For more than a century, its walls have absorbed the lives of those who have lived here. «Sound of Falling» follows four women from different eras – Alma (1910s), Erika (1940s), Angelika (1980s) and Nelly (2020s) – whose lives are intertwined in uncanny ways. Each of them spends her childhood or youth on the farm, and as they move through their own present, traces of the past begin to surface. When a tragic event repeats itself on the property, the boundaries between past and present start to blur.

«Sound of Falling» is a journey through the finest branches of emotional experience across four generations. With this sweeping, epoch-spanning work, director Mascha Schilinski won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Her film burrows deep into our perception, staging wonder where feeling is at its most fleeting – in the rapidly fading sense of time.
