In Water

A young actor decides to give up acting and make his own short film. His small film crew – consisting of himself, the cinematographer, and the lead actress – travels to the rocky, wind-swept island of Jeju. In search of an idea, he explores the surroundings, waits for the perfect light, and watches the horizon from the coast. When the project begins to stall, a chance encounter with a garbage collector provides the crucial spark.

In his characteristically self-reflexive style, South Korean director Hong Sang-soo weaves the ordinary with the existential. The carefully composed images give the protagonist’s artistic creative process a poetic and lyrical form.
