On Falling

Aurora, a Portuguese woman, works in Edinburgh as a warehouse worker at a distribution center for a global online giant. Caught between the monotony of life in the anonymous warehouse and the loneliness of her room, she risks withering in isolation and losing touch with herself. Aurora strives to maintain human connections in the algorithm-driven Big Economy and to stay true to herself in an increasingly digital world.

The sensitively and powerfully told debut film by Portuguese filmmaker Laura Carreira sheds light on the dehumanizing working conditions in an online fulfillment center. In its humanistic approach, Carreira’s work recalls Ken Loach, the master of social cinema, who served as a producer.
