Jo, a witty 9-year old terminally ill girl is taken back to her rural village to live out the rest of her short life. Her only comfort during these dull times are her dreams of being a Superhero, which prove to be something her rebellious teenage sister Mwix, overprotective mother Kathryn and the entire village of Maweni think they can fulfill.

"Good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives," but Kena and Ziki long for something more. Despite the political rivalry between their families, the girls resist and remain close friends, supporting each other to pursue their dreams in a conservative society. When love blossoms between them, the two girls will be forced to choose between happiness and safety.

In coastal Kenya, a frenzied mix of consumerism & christianity is turning hundreds of families against their elders, branding them as witches as a means to steal their land. The young Kenyan Mwas has a dream: to tread the boards as an actor. In order to realise this dream, he leaves his village and heads for Nairobi, but is overwhelmed by the loud and wild city. One day, he is robbed and left completely helpless on the streets. Placed in this existential predicament, Mwas slowly slips into Nairobi’s underworld. What begins with petty scams and minor drug deals, ends with more serious crimes. When corrupt police begin to threaten him, he has to decide between fast money and his dream. NAIROBI HALF LIFE is one of the few Kenyan features created during Tom Tykwer’s East African "One Fine Day Films" project.

Two different stories during the riots after the presidential elections in Kenya in 2007/2008: The Kenyan Anne (Susan Wanjiru) got it particularly badly. Her husband is dead and her son is in a coma. In addition, she was raped and her farm burned to the ground. She stands before the ruins of her existence. But Anne gives everything to rehabilitate herself and slowly get her life back under control. Anne is determined to forgive her tormentors, who have brought so much suffering to her and her loved ones. Then there is Joseph (Walter Lagat), who was one of the accomplices in the attack on Anne. His conscience troubles him, he doesn't really know how to deal with the matter. Joseph tries to leave the past behind and find new perspectives in his life.
