Pedro Almodóvar

Following the tragic death of her teenage son, Manuela (Cecilia Roth) travels from Madrid to Barcelona in an attempt to contact the long-estranged father the boy never knew. She reunites with an old friend, an outspoken transgender sex worker (Antonia San Juan), and befriends a troubled actress (Marisa Paredes) and a pregnant, HIV-positive nun (Penélope Cruz).

Ricky is released from a mental hospital, and knows exactly what he wants to do. He hunts down Marina, a porn film star he once had sex with, and tries to convince her to be his wife. She is a bit reluctant, so he ties her up. Will this approach endear him to her?

Two women, Janis (Penélope Cruz) and Ana (Milena Smit), coincide in a hospital room where they are going to give birth. Both are single and became pregnant by accident. Janis, middle-aged, doesn't regret it and she is exultant. The other, Ana, an adolescent, is scared, repentant and traumatized. Janis tries to encourage her while they move like sleepwalkers along the hospital corridors. The few words they exchange in these hours will create a very close link between the two, which by chance develops and complicates, and changes their lives in a decisive way

A very mixed group of travellers are in a life-threatening situation on board a plane flying to Mexico City. Their defencelessness in the face of danger provokes a general catharsis that ends up becoming the best way to escape from the idea of death. This catharsis, developed in the tone of a riotous, moral comedy, fills the time with unforeseeable confessions that help them forget the anguish of the moment and face the greatest of dangers, that which they each carry within themselves. Oscar-winner Pedro Almodóvar has made a light, very light comedy that is reminiscent of his colorful classics. On board as passengers on the verge of a nervous breakdown: lots of old acquaintances from the Almodóvar universe such as Javier Cámara, Cecilia Roth, Lola Dueñas and Blanca Suárez as well as superstars Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas with respective cameos.

Salvador Mallo (Antonio Banderas), a film director in his physical decline, reencounters or remembers his past: his childhood in a village, the first desire, his first adult love in 80s Madrid, the pain of that breakup. In recovering his past, Salvador finds the urgent need to recount it, and also finds his salvation.

In honor of his late wife who died in a flaming car accident, scientist, Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas), is trying to synthesize the perfect skin which can withstand burns, cuts or any other kind of damage. As he gets closer to perfecting this skin on his flawless patient Vera (Elena Anaya), the scientific community starts growing skeptical and his past is revealed that shows how his patient is closely linked to tragic events he would like to forget.

Julieta (Emma Suarez) is a middle-aged woman living in Madrid with her boyfriend Lorenzo. They are about to move to Portugal when she casually runs into Bea, the former best friend of Julieta's daughter Antía. Bea reveals that Antía is living in Switzerland, married, with three children. Heartbroken after 12 years of estrangement from her daughter, Julieta cancels the move to Portugal and moves to her former building, hoping that Antía will send her a letter. Alone with her thoughts, Julieta starts to write her memories to confront the pain of the events that happened when she was a teenager (Adriana Ugarte) and met Galician fisherman Xoan. Falling in love with him, Julieta divides her time between her family, her job, and Antía's education until a fatal accident changes their lives. Slowly falling into a depression, Julieta is helped by Antía and Bea, but one day Antia suddenly goes missing after a vacation, with no clues about where to find her, leaving Julieta desperate to understand the reasons of her disappearance...

A woman watches time passing next to the suitcases of her ex-lover (who is supposed to come pick them up, but never arrives) and a restless dog who doesn’t understand that his master has abandoned him. Two living beings confronted with being abandoned. Madness and melancholy intersect to thrilling effect as Pedro Almodóvar reimagines Jean Cocteau’s short play for an era in which isolation has become a way of life. A short, sharp shot of distilled Almodóvar: passion, emotion, heartbreak, wit, and melodrama exquisitely bound up in a tale for our times.
