Franz Rogowski

Franz Rogowski, born in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1986, came to film via contemporary dance and was named “European Shooting Star” at the 2018 Berlinale. His physical acting style makes him one of the most impressive actors in contemporary cinema - intuitive, vulnerable and quietly intense. As different as Rogowski's individual roles are, there are recurring motifs. Most of his characters are characterized by a sense of being outsiders. In “Undine” and “Great Freedom”, he embodies fragile, searching men whose stories unfold less in words than in movements and looks. He also showed his quiet greatness alongside Sandra Hüller in “In the Aisles”: as the shy warehouse worker Christian, he fills the empty supermarket aisles with a tenderness that makes interpersonal closeness palpable. Rogowski is a sensitive actor of the unspoken, who penetrates every role both physically and emotionally.
