For a long time, the little Ghost has been living in the attic of a castle. Its greatest wish is to see the world by the light of day, but its attempts are all in vain. Three children, Karl, Hannes and Marie, go on a nighttime hike to the castle, where they encounter the little Ghost. The following day, the little Ghost promptly wakes at noon. Its joy is short-lived, however, as, tinted black by the first sunbeam, the little Ghost scares the townsfolk and causes all kinds of chaos. Despairing, it turns to the children for help in trying to go home and return to its former existence as a night ghost.

Director Francis Lee, as in his earlier film «God's Own Country» which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, takes up the theme of love between people who are attracted to each other despite (or perhaps because of) different social classes and personalities.

Selma, a psychoanalyst, deals with a cast of colorful new patients after returning home to Tunisia to open a practice.

Rosa, a Mozambican peasant, is accused by the family of her husband of having caused his suicide by refusing to obey him. She is suspected of having a "spirit-husband". In order to prove her innocence, Rosa submits herself to two trials: one by a traditional healer, the other in court. She is absolved twice. Nevertheless, the dead man relatives continue to persecute her and she is punished in a cruel way. The film is interpreted by the real players of this story, the dead man by his twin brother. During the shooting, the director decided to install a second camera to follow the never ending plot of revenge. Such a complex editing has no parallel in African cinema.

Bratsch, located in the Leuk mountains, is an Upper Valais village with a magnificent view of the Rhone Valley. Just one hundred people still lived in the village in 2015. Since the municipality merger with Gampel down in the valley, the school building has stood empty. Something was about to change. The film documents the development and changes in the village from the reopening of the school in autumn 2016 to the present.

Playful and poignant, «Land of Dreams» acknowledges in a surreal and satirical way the greatness of the American experiment while offering a warning beacon for what could come.
